Portable Oxygen Concentrators
A portable oxygen concentrator is a smaller version of a stationary home oxygen concentrator. It utilizes the same principle of seperating oxygen and nitrogen molecules from room air using zeolite or molecular SIEVE. These small portable devices can run on A/C or D/C power and have rechargeable batteries. All portable oxygen concentrators utilize pulse dose delivery technology. Some larger portables can also deliver continuous flow oxygen in addition to pulse dose. When considering a portable oxygen concentrator it is important to understand how pusle dose will affect your blood gas oxygen levels. Pulse dose delivers a "puff" or bolus of oxygen when the patient takes a breath through their nose using a nasal cannula. When a patient inhales through the nasal cannula, the portable oxygen concentrator senses the negative air pressure and delivers the pulse. Pulse dose delivery cannot be used at night to deliver oxygen while you are sleeping.
